Against Malaria a message from Molly Roy
Dear Family and Friends,
Since 2004, over 350,000 people from all over the world have teamed up to fight malaria in coordination with Against Malaria, an initiative of the Against Malaria Foundation. Their efforts have resulted in the purchase of over 800,000 long-lasting insecticidal mosquito nets--the most effective means of preventing malaria. Net distributions have taken place in 33 countries to date. But this is only the beginning. Against Malaria is aiming to have 3 million people involved worldwide, mirroring the number of people who die from malaria every year.
I extend the invitation to join in this global effort at Marafiki, an event to directly fund the fight against malaria, the world's most deadly preventable disease. Happening March 12, 2009, at Ruta Maya in Austin, Texas, this event will feature performances by local artists, dancers, and musicians, as well as food and a silent auction. 100 percent of the money raised will be used to purchase insecticidal nets for distribution in Tanzania, East Africa. The distribution will be documented through video and photography on the website, so every donation can be seen through to the end. The goal is to raise $10,000, which will equal 2,000 life-saving nets.
Marafiki is a Kiswahili word meaning friends, and that's what this is all about to me. In 2006, I witnessed a dear friend in the grip of his own personal fight against malaria. My friend was but one of the 300-500 million people, all somebody's friends, who suffered from malaria that year, and every year. And now I ask my friends, and their friends, and their friends to come together in this fight.
If you cannot make it on March 12, please show your support at www.againstmalaria.com/marafiki, and please pass along the message.
In peace and friendship,
Molly Roy

S R O The Mexican Muralists
They had a manifesto and they painted , brothels and slums and street life, war and heavy machinery. Stuff you don't really see anymore. Rare it is to see even kids playing in the street. Interactions are at the mall or cyber connections. Text this, text that, buy your songs online or blog like this.
